Annual Awards Banquet
Perch Base held its Annual Awards Banquet on January 11, 2020, at the Pebble Creek Clubhouse. Our guest speaker was Les Parsons, Officer-In-Charge on the Trieste II submersible. Chuck Luna, our Communications Officer, MidWatch Editor and Base Historian was selected as "Sailor of the Year." Ed Gonsowski won the Earlybird Contest.
The Invocation to open the Annual Banquet and the Benediction at the end were led by our Base Chaplain, Governor Joy.

Our Chief of the Boat (COB), Carl Miner, tolled the bell for the January "Tolling of the Boats" ceremony, and tolled the bell for
our Perch Base members who passed on to Eternal Patrol during 2019:

Chuck Luna, our Communications Officer, MidWatch Editor and Base Historian was selected as "Sailor of the Year." He received the commendation, a plaque, a photo of the USS Phoenix (SSN-702) (Chuck is a plankowner of the USS Phoenix,) and a set of dolphins.

Our Keynote Speaker, Les Parsons, CDR (ret) described his experiences as Officer-In-Charge (OIC) of the deep submersible Trieste II. He also introduced others in the audience who participated in the Trieste work, including our Western Region Director, Jim Denzien, Past Commander, Stan Reinhold, and Greg "Yeo" Sampson. Upon completion of Les' presentation, Howard presented him a plaque of appreciation.

The Silent Auction benefitted the Arizona Silent Service Memorial (ASSM) and was coordinated by Tim Moore, the ASSM Chairman.
